Domke - The Chronicle
My choice of a rugged bag
Review by Julie Eggers

After changing camera systems from my Canon DSLR system to the Olympus Om-d E-M1 mirrorless micro four thirds digital camera system, I found myself looking for a new camera bag that will fit my needs, especially my international travel needs.  Smaller systems calls for a smaller bag (happy about that!) that is convenient to carry, easy accessability and durable.  It seems that this Domke Chronicle bag in the Journalist Series fit my needs.  I chose the ruggedWear Black.

Not only is it durable, but has a classy retro look and great protection.  You can also customize the bag with a variety of PocketFlex system dividers and inserts and storage pockets.  The expandable side pockets allows me to carry all my cords and accessories.  Small enough, but if you need more room there is an expandable zipper on both sides.  The two front pockets also have snaps that allow the 2 pockets to expand.

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro that is 10" and fits into a padded, zippered front pocket.  Both the shoulder strap, which is adjustable, and hand strap are detachable.  There is also a strong web strap across the back so that it can fit over the handle of a roller suitcase.

If you might be worried about it getting dirty of showing wear, don't fret.  The bag comes with a RuggedWear refinishing wax.

HERE'S WHAT I PACK IN MY TRAVEL BAG:

  • 2 Olympus OM-d EM-1 bodies
  • 45-175mm f/4.0-5.6 lens
  • 12-40mm  f/2.8 lens
  • 60mm macro lens
  • External backup hard drive
  • Card reader
  • Extra SD flash cards
  • Tiffen filters
  • Flash
  • Flashlight
  • Extra batteries
  • Chargers and cords to go with it all
  • Notebook, pens and business cards
  • Passport and cell phone

I am looking forward to working out of this bag on my next international trip in a few weeks, and because of the durability of this bag and versatality, I may never (did I say never?) need another bag.
